Removing my gauntlets and tucking them in my belt, I eye the ferry master carefully when he does not hail me. The closer I get to the ferry, the more I become certain that he does not recognise me. Indeed, he seems to have a look of distrust about him whenever he peers in my direction.
It has been months since I departed unexpectedly, but it feels like years. A thousand aches and pains make themselves known with every step. My clothes are hardly more than tatters and my armour a shoddy mess. Flashes of the recent past force themselves to the front of my conciousness....my breathing quickens unconciously and I look over my shoulder out of habit.
Forcing myself to think of something else, I hail the ferry master
"Greetings ser."
Casting a doubtful eye upon me, he replies with an air of disbelief, "Ya be wantin' passage to Byrniaren?"
Cracking a slight grin, I nod once as memories of fair Byrniaren supplant the unpleasant ones of moments before. I wonder what has transpired during my absence.
Will I still be made welcome?
What will have changed?
Am I...safe...from them here?
"Well, ye best get aboard then" he growls roughly and I notice all of the other passengers are already aboard.
The ferry master grudgingly moves aside as I board and I see that he still has no idea who I am. As the ferry casts off and begins to move across the lake, I strain to make out the shore on the other side. I remember how, some few months ago, Byrniaren was attacked and the terrible damage that was done. I wonder if the reconstruction work is now complete.
I am jarred back to my surroundings as the ferry docks. I wait for the others to disembark and then I shoulder what is left of my pack and step onto the shore, wondering what the future holds.

"I must leave", Recurver senses the unmistakable feeling of dread that has been gnawing steadily within him as he now makes his way down to the shoreline, he has asked Skyraven to prepare Arael, his black mare, and have her ready at the pier.
He thinks of the many times he has walked down this road to waterside and of the many memories the pathway holds. As he clears the bend that brings him into view of the jetty he pauses. Squinting his eyes against the sun he sees the ferry arriving. He sees the ferry... but.. he notices the shape of a familiar friend and ally: An ally that has been missing for to long without word.
"Korri." Reeks whisper is lost within the breeze that blows to the water's edge. "What have you been up to?" He notices his friend's form bent with fatigue and a face that has the look of someone not at ease within himself. Recurver picks up his pace and arrives at the pier as Korri throws down his bags onto the wooden decking.
"What have you been doing?" Reek's voice is forced to take on a sarcastic tone as he openly smiles to see his friend. "You look terrible. You should try sleeping in a bed more often too, my weather worn friend. The hedges you have been snoozing under do not do your appearance much credit at all." He steps forward and grasps The Lord's hand with a firm welcoming grip. "Great to see you again Korri. Do you need a hand taking your belongings to the house?" Thoughts of his own departure put on hold for a while longer.
